  • ALL-MOUNTAIN CONSTRUCTION - 14 LAYERS: Every Torrent and Tempest is pressed in Colorado from 14 layers of wood, fiberglass, carbon, rubber, and steel, laid up just like this - base first, art last. Hover any layer to see what it's there for.
  • ISOSPEED 7200 sintered base: A sintered, high-molecular-weight polyethylene base. Sintered bases are more porous than extruded ones, so they hold more wax and glide faster, with plenty of material for repairs.
  • 2.2mm hardened steel edges: Hardened steel, 2.2mm thick, wrapped around the full perimeter of the base - enough material for years of tuning and rock hits, and the reason the ski holds on ice.
  • VDS rubber foil: Rubber in three places: a sheet above the core, a sheet below it, and a 20mm strip along each edge, just above the steel. It soaks up vibration before it reaches your feet and helps the layers bond.
  • 4 x 12k carbon stringers, lower: Four narrow strips of carbon fiber, 12,000 filaments each, run the length of the ski. They add rebound out of a turn and take the buzz out of hard, chattery snow.
  • V12 Carbon Matrix, lower: Strips of carbon laid in V-shaped chevrons through the tip and tail, above and below the core. Carbon is far stiffer than fiberglass for its weight, so the ends stay calm at speed without adding swing weight.
  • 22oz triaxial fiberglass, lower: Fiberglass woven in three directions: straight and at 45 degrees each way. It's the layer that resists twisting, which is what keeps the edge biting on firm snow. One sheet above the core, one below.
  • Beech + poplar wood core: Poplar and beech strips laminated side by side: poplar keeps the ski light and lively, beech adds damping and edge grip. Milled thicker underfoot and thinner at the ends, which is what sets the flex.
  • Durasurf 2001 P-Tex sidewalls: Tough UHMW polyethylene along both sides of the core, with P-Tex spacers - the same material as the base - filling the tip and tail past the wood. It shields the core and sends boot pressure straight into the steel edge.
  • Tiered dual-layer triaxial mounting plate: Two extra patches of triaxial fiberglass under the binding area, stepped in size so the reinforcement tapers into the ski instead of stopping at a hard line. Binding screws bite into reinforced material and hold.
  • 22oz triaxial fiberglass, upper: Fiberglass woven in three directions: straight and at 45 degrees each way. It's the layer that resists twisting, which is what keeps the edge biting on firm snow. One sheet above the core, one below.
  • 4 x 12k carbon stringers, upper: Four narrow strips of carbon fiber, 12,000 filaments each, run the length of the ski. They add rebound out of a turn and take the buzz out of hard, chattery snow.
  • V12 Carbon Matrix, upper: Strips of carbon laid in V-shaped chevrons through the tip and tail, above and below the core. Carbon is far stiffer than fiberglass for its weight, so the ends stay calm at speed without adding swing weight.
  • 9oz unidirectional fiberglass: Every fiber runs tip to tail. That adds spring along the ski - the energy you feel when a turn finishes - without making it harder to twist, so the ski stays easy to steer.
  • Sublimated matte PBT topsheet: The artwork is dyed into a matte PBT sheet with heat rather than printed on top, so the art is part of the ski. PBT is hard and scratch-resistant; the matte finish hides the small scuffs of a normal season.
